Being Forty

Age is relative and basically if you've got it, flaunt it that's my motto. Self confidence comes with time it is not something that most of us are born with. It is a skill that can be learned.

Some tips to overcome that shyness, awkwardness. Look at the reasons why you're shy. Sometimes it is easier to stay a wallflower than coming out and mingling. All of us are afraid of failure and want to be liked. When you are at an event or with friends and family talk to one person at a time. Set a goal to talk to at least five people in one evening and build from there. Start small talk about the weather, kids, family, work, food, movies. Cover the basics and take it from there, you'll be suprised how people can open up to you. Talk to people and listen to people.

Look around you and see who inspires confidence. Learn from them.

Develop a sense of humour, even when it is about you.

Make a point of always dressing comfortably yet stylish in something you feel confident enough in.

Confidence develops it doesn't happen overnight. There is going to be dissapointments make room for those and soldier on.

Trust yourself and be honest with yourself. Be happy with yourself.

Change usually involves taking risks, venturing towards the unknown. You're not alone on this path that's for sure.
