Accessories

We might not be able to do all of the fashions. It's nice to know what's out there and again incorporate a little bit of something into what we wear. Accessories is one way to go.
A nice scarf can do the thing. Even a nice trendy handbag. Even a nice pair of gladiator shoes can spruce up a nice dress. I might not have the legs for a short dress, yet something bold might do the trick.
Just something to think about, while shopping.

Colours to think about

Instead of everything always being black what about bringing some colour into your life.

Trends Trends Trends

Inspiration comes from everywhere and one of the places we can be inspired from are the various fashion weeks around the world. Have no idea what to wear, what's in and what's not this is the place to look at the latest trends, happenings and goings on in the Fashion World. This doesn't mean everything would be suitable, yet, we all can shop with our eyes. Transcend into the day to day and build our closets from there. I believe even in our forties we can do fashion stylefully. Pick an item which is in, wear it with flair, yet keep the classics going. Book these dates.

Animal Prints

Who said we the "oldies" aren't allowed to wear any prints. Mind you, you have to have a body like Sharon's to pull it off, but hey, if you got it wear it.

The power of they

The start off point today is if we all are equal the odds don't matter. Yet, in our minds there are odds and usually we say "they" or the odds are stacked against us. Alternatively we might feel so bad that the odds are against other people that we would not to want to be seen greedy and take our share. Now who is "they", they are other people right. Wrong, they are usually our very own idea, fears or misapprehensions, our predetermined ceilings of our worth. Now who are "they" again, they are the perceptions that we have that some people have more power than what we do. We believe that some people have the power to say yes or no to our dreams.

What I'm saying is that when we all give ourselves, the dignity we crave and the right to support and validate our own work, so many doors mysteriously open.

So instead of believing in the power of "they" think of yourself as the starting point and believe in yourself. Again, instead of sitting at home to afraid to start something, just go for it. You never know you might start your own business at 40 / 50 / 60. It's not written in stone when people put a figure to you that you need to be that figure.

This week is the week to be living stylish and just live life to the fullest and making those "they's" a no brainer.

The Suit

Personally I think we all can do with a nice suit in our closets. You never know when you're going to need to suit up and look more professional. Saying this the suit needs to be the right cut. If it doesn't fit, even on sale don't buy it. Women should try to avoid sleeves with puffed up sleeves. Make sure that the blazer is cut to cover your bust. If you can only afford one suit get one in a dark colour. Low waists might be in for jeans but this does not work with suits. Pants made from comfortable material doesn't need to be lined. If you do fit on a suit, remember to check how you look from behind. Any seams, zips which stick out should be avoided. I'm going to say this, satins if you do want to do satin should only be worn in the evenings and again need to be right cut. Herewith a few ideas how to wear the suit.

Jackets Today

Where still on the theme of jackets today and I thought you will appreciate this. It's all about accessories. I'll tell you what, go throught those cupboards of yours and I'm sure you'll find a nice scarf, handbag, gloves, shoe, hat which would just give yourself the perfect look. It's not that difficult. Anyone can look this good.

Jacket Theme

A few variations on the jacket theme I've got going. I just luv this put together look. Who knew white could look like this.

Julia Roberts

I like her casual style.. The look she has put together with her jackets are it. There is so much you can do if you get yourself one decent jacket. It's the accessories that count.

Kim Catrall

Kim Catrall has it. It's about attitude what do I mean when I say attitude. The definition of Attitude is the position of the body or manner of carrying oneself. If you haven't seen Sex in the City book yourself a date and make the effort, it's worth it.

Madonna

As we all know Guy and Madge are no more. I for one really thought this would work, know she is one tough girl, but then life happens and one cannot foresee the future. Madge is busy with a world tour again and you can read all about it here.

For a 50 year old she's got the look and I mean not just the look she is the ultimate icon in reinvention. I can just imagine how she will be doing us all justice in reinventing herself again.

Values

You can achieve any goal you put your mind to. Yet, what happens when you get what you think you want and your life still feels incomplete. The answer lies in how you prioritise your values and how you set your goals around them.

Defining one's values are not easy. Realising a true value and living up to it means letting go of an old way of life and making way for the new.

We all are unique and have values intrinsic to our true selves, my values might not be yours and your values are not less important than mine.

Values are what inspires us to greatness.

Susan Sarandon

The Middle East Festival honors Susan read about it here.

Brooke Shields

Who can remember the days of not being allowed to go see Blue Lagoon. Since then we all grew up and Brooke Shields became the star in Lipstick Jungle.

Brooke attended her first Emmy ceremony in 2008 and she looked absolutely stunning. It's about attitude.

Brooke wore the same jeans which she wore with her ads for Calvin Klein to Calvin Kleins 40th anniversary bash.

Just goes to show there's life in us yet........

Girls and their Toys

Who said it's only men who are entitled to a mid life crisis. If it allows one these I would say bring one on any day.

For those who want to sound extremely knowledgable when it comes to boys and their toys this could be ice-breaker.

Who-ever said that beauty is only skin-deep has never laid eyes on these little babies. Move over suburban here I come....

Being Forty

Age is relative and basically if you've got it, flaunt it that's my motto. Self confidence comes with time it is not something that most of us are born with. It is a skill that can be learned.

Some tips to overcome that shyness, awkwardness. Look at the reasons why you're shy. Sometimes it is easier to stay a wallflower than coming out and mingling. All of us are afraid of failure and want to be liked. When you are at an event or with friends and family talk to one person at a time. Set a goal to talk to at least five people in one evening and build from there. Start small talk about the weather, kids, family, work, food, movies. Cover the basics and take it from there, you'll be suprised how people can open up to you. Talk to people and listen to people.

Look around you and see who inspires confidence. Learn from them.

Develop a sense of humour, even when it is about you.

Make a point of always dressing comfortably yet stylish in something you feel confident enough in.

Confidence develops it doesn't happen overnight. There is going to be dissapointments make room for those and soldier on.

Trust yourself and be honest with yourself. Be happy with yourself.

Change usually involves taking risks, venturing towards the unknown. You're not alone on this path that's for sure.

Quote from Mae West

“A man has more character in his face at forty than at twenty--he has suffered longer.”

Style in your fifties

Style is all in the mind. Found this site whereby even when you're in you're fifties you still can have the "it" factor.

Another "fortiesh" / "fiftiesh" person is Sharon Stone. I just think a person can look stylish no matter how old you are.
